X Factor 2012: Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh step out for dinner following Ella Henderson's shock departure

They were left devastated earlier in the evening when show favourite Ella Henderson was eliminated from The X Factor following a shock sing-off with James Arthur.

But Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh seemed keen to put their traumatic night behind them as they stepped out for dinner together on Sunday.

While Louis appeared to be in relatively good spirits as he grinned alongside his blonde companion, Nicole looked as though she had the weight of the world on her shoulders as she arrived at C Restaurant in London's Mayfair.

Looking utterly downcast as she headed into the eaterie, the 34-year-old singer still seemed devastated at the shocking events of the evening.

Despite her glum appearance, the Poison hitmaker looked stunning for her dinner date with her X Factor co-judge, showing off her incredible curves in a form-fitting high-necked patterned dress.

Nicole added height to her frame in a pair of towering dusky pink platform heels, while she wore her raven locks long and loose around her shoulders.

The former Pussycat Dolls singer was extremely emotional during Sunday night's X Factor, describing the fact that her act James Arthur was facing teen singer Ella Henderson in a shock sing-off as a 'great tragedy'.

Voting to save James from elimination, she said: 'No matter what happens, tonight is a great tragedy for this show. You two are the most talented to grace this stage. Ella I have no worries about you, but I have to stick with my boy.'

Louis seemed equally shocked to see to of the favourites in the bottom two.

Choosing to send James home, he said: 'I'm in shock. I thought they were two finalists. Nicole and Tulisa are broken-hearted.

'Ella, you have so much potential. You've got so much more to give in this competition. James, you are amazing. You're a ready made act for a record deal. The act I'm sending home is James.'

Tulisa Contostavlos chose to save her own ! act Ella,! while head judge Gary Barlow took the decision to deadlock after saving James - meaning Ella was sent home after polling the least votes from the public.

Visibly shocked at the situation, Tulisa attacked the public for voting for the wrong people.

Hugging Ella on stage, she told host Dermot O'Leary: 'It's ridiculous, this situation, it's ridiculous, it's ridiculous.

'People thought she was safe. There was nothing wrong about her performance. This week was one of the best she's ever done.'

But the 16-year-old star accepted her fate graciously, saying: 'This year , the talent on the show is incredible. Everyone deserves to be on this show. I wouldn't be where I am now without this show.

'(I loved) meeting people, the contestants are great. I love you all. I loved performing on this stage. I've loved every minute of it. I've grown so much.'

Tuli! sa now has no acts left in the competition, while Gary continues to mentor controversial contestant Christopher Maloney and Louis hopes for success with boyband Union J.

Meanwhile, Nicole still has all three of her acts - James Arthur, Rylan Clark and Jahmene Douglas - left in the competition.
