HAIR HOW-TO: Nicole Scherzinger's X Factor updo

Nicole Scherzinger showed off a strategic updo on last night's X Factor while suffering her first loss with Rylan's departure.

X Factor hair stylist Jamie Stevens, who works on the contestants before every show, has given us his top tips to achieve the look.

Check out his step-by-step below

  • Pin away fringe area
  • Braid hair on each side working from the ear to the crown
  • Put your hair into 2 x ponytails one at the crown, incorporating the plaits into this and one 2 x inches below
  • Tong the hair in sections in each ponytail
  • Shake out the curls
  • Randomly and loosely pin sections of the hair into the centre of the style using Kirby grips to cover the ponytails so it creates an elongated shape at the back, leaving loose hair out for an undone 'mohican' effect
  • Tong the fringe area horizontally and backwards, then backcomb roots using pintail comb and hairspray
  • Brush the fringe back with a soft bristle brush and loosely pin into the crown to connect with the rest of hair and finish with hairspray
