X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger left The Den in Hollywood wearing her hair in a retro style seemingly inspired by more than one decade. The reverse roll had a distinct 1940s flair while the placement resulted in a look that was part 1970s-inspired mohawk and part 1950s-inspired pompadour.
In addition to Nicole we've seen a number of celebs rocking the reverse roll in a variety of different ways. Dita Von Teese, queen of retro chic, has worn the reverse roll several times. Scarlett Johansson and Katy Perry have also sported relatively traditional versions of the 1940s-inspired style. We even uncovered Gwen Stefani working a similar look at the 2006 Billboard Music Awards.
We love creative hairstyling and we're happy to see the done 'do making a comeback. After years of long wavy tresses, celebs are embracing the updo. 1940s.org states that complicated hairstyling during WWII arose out of a desire to look fabulous when fabric rationing limited women's ability make cool clothes. Luckily for us we now have a plethora of inexp! ensive w ays to look fabulous and we look forward to even more inspiring style (in both hair and fashion) in 2012.
