Nicole Scherzinger has found happiness after bulimia battle

Nicole Scherzinger is glad she opened up about her struggle with an eating disorder and feels a weight has been lifted from her.

Nicole Scherzinger has found ''happiness and acceptance'' in her life.

The 'Poison' hitmaker - who is in a relationship with Lewis Hamilton - recently revealed she had battled bulimia and says she opened up about her struggles because she was in a place to feel she could help other people.

She said: ''What got me to that point was that I wanted to help people. I know what it's like to live in such a dark place.

''I've found a healthy place in my life where there's happiness and joy and acceptance, and it just takes a huge weight off your shoulders.

''I wondered why people don't connect with me... and it's because I don't know when to tell the truth, as I'm protecting myself. When you open up and tell the truth, it'll set you free.''

Nicole is also thankful to have had the backing of her family since she spoke out.

The 'X Factor' judge added to more! magazine: ''I just called my grandmother who lives in Hawaii to wish her happy birthday. I didn't realise the whole family was over with her, and the first thing she said was - well she just started crying and said, 'We just want you to know we love you and we're so proud of you.' And she even told my mum that she understands a bit why I was always so down now.''
